On 9-25, Taking Back Sunday with special guests Thrice and Saves the Day hit the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City. This is an awesome lineup of bands, as all of them could easily be the headliner.
Opening up the night was Saves the Day. They came out to a roaring applause, opening with “Anywhere With You.” They played a tight 30 minute set and sounded fantastic. They played songs like “Through Being Cool,” “Shoulder to the Wheel,” and their newest single, Their Newest Song “Invader,” before ending with “At Your Funeral.” Even with a shorter set, they were able to fit a lot into their time on stage and got the crowd ready for the rest of the night.
Next up was Thrice, opening with “Of Dust and Nations” from the album Vheissu. Their set consisted of songs across their catalog, including their newest album Horizons/West. Everything from their performance, sound, energy, and atmosphere was fantastic. I especially liked the erratic lighting for their closing song “Gnash.” It fit the song so well and was a great way to end their set.
Closing the night was Taking Back Sunday. The crowd went wild when they took the stage and Fred Mascherino sent the opening notes for “What It’s Like to Be a Ghost.” Adam Lazzara was all over the stage throughout the set, bringing the energy he has become known for, while John Nolan held down the guitar and helped drive the songs along. The chemistry between the band was great to watch, especially during the Louder Now songs that have become some of the band's most recognizable.
While this tour isn’t labeled as a Louder Now anniversary tour, it very well could be, as they played most of the songs from it along with songs from across all of their albums. The band sounded great throughout the set and the crowd sang along to every song, with crowd surfers making their way to the front. Songs like “Liar,” “MakeDamnSure,” and “A Decade Under the Influence” had the entire room singing along. There was a great energy in the crowd throughout their entire set, and you could tell how much these songs still mean to the people who grew up listening to them.
Overall, this was a really strong lineup from start to finish. Saves the Day, Thrice, and Taking Back Sunday all brought something different to the night, and each band sounded great. It was also cool seeing a crowd that clearly knew the songs from all three bands, making for a really fun night in Atlantic City.
