The Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival
Spring Sessions
April 12th & 13th 2024
This past weekend was an absolute blast as I delved into the immersive world of the 18th annual Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival. It was a colossal affair, boasting over 100 breweries flaunting a diverse selection of more than 400 beers. The air was alive with the harmonious fusion of nine main stage bands and 11 local acts serenading the eager crowd on the acoustic stage. Nestled within the grandeur of the Atlantic City Convention Center, a venue I hadn't graced since the electrifying performance by Everclear back in 2015. And if you didn't get your fill this time around, fret not, for the summer session beckons on July 13th at Bader Field, promising another unforgettable experience.
As I crossed the threshold into the festival grounds, I was greeted by the majestic annual sand sculpture, a living testament to the creative spirit of the event. It was a mesmerizing sight to behold, witnessing the evolution of sand into a masterpiece over the course of the festivities. Nearby, Pinball Lane beckoned with its array of Pinball delights, providing a nostalgic escape for enthusiasts. And for those seeking a thrill, the array of activities was boundless; from the adrenaline-fueled derby races to the whimsical escapades on the Eliminator, there was never a dull moment. I found myself drawn to the inflatable wonderland of Wonderballs, where daring souls leaped from sphere to sphere, defying gravity with each bound. And of course, who could resist the primal allure of axe throwing? Good Time Tricycle truly outdid themselves in curating an array of experiences to captivate the senses.
The main stage pulsated with energy as Session One unfolded, featuring powerhouse performances by the likes of Just Friends, Free Throw, and the unforgettable Hot Mulligan. The crowd erupted in a frenzy of cheers and jubilation as Hot Mulligan commanded the stage, igniting a wave of crowd surfing and sing-alongs that reverberated throughout the venue. Meanwhile, the acoustic stage provided a sanctuary of soulful melodies, with local talents like Te Vista, Afloat, Red Desert Motel, and The Williamsboy casting a spell with their heartfelt performances.
Session Two saw the convergence of runners from the 5k hops trot and music/Beer aficionados alike, as the main stage played host to the infectious sounds of Action/Adventure, Catch 22, and the legendary Saves the Day. The air was charged with anticipation as Saves the Day took the stage, delivering a performance that was simply amazing, leaving an indelible mark on all who bore witness. Simultaneously, the acoustic stage provided a haven of tranquility, with artists like LT, Mike Carney, and Tam Garcia enchanting the audience with their mellifluous melodies.
As the night reached its crescendo in Session Three, the Main Stage erupted with the dynamic sounds of Keep Flying, CLiffdiver, and the iconic Goldfinger. Goldfinger's arrival was met with thunderous applause and a sea of ecstatic fans, their timeless hits igniting a frenzy of dance and revelry. Across the aisle, the Acoustic Stage provided a more intimate setting, with acts like Jersey Calling, Don't Panic, P funk North, CJ Sooy Band the Rain Dawgz delivering performances that made you want to dance along.
But let us not forget the libations that fueled the festivities. With over 100 breweries pouring forth a symphony of flavors from the northeast, and more than 400 beers to tantalize the palate, the options were as diverse as they were delightful. Departed Soles Brewing Company emerged triumphant, claiming the coveted 2024 People's Choice trophy with their inspired collaborations alongside Hot Mulligan and Action/Adventure. And amidst the culinary cornucopia of food truck alley, the street tacos from Taco Cat emerged as a personal favorite.
In retrospect, this was more than a festival; it was a celebration of the human spirit, a testament to the power of community and camaraderie. As the curtains closed on this chapter at the Atlantic City Convention Center, anticipation mounted for the upcoming summer sessions at Bader Field on July 13th. Hats off to Jon Henderson and the Amazing team at Good Time Tricycle, whose tireless efforts ensured a seamless orchestration of joy. Likewise, accolades to Near Dark Entertainment for curating a stellar lineup for the main stage, and Norstep Productions for spotlighting the finest local talent on the Acoustic Stage. The horizon beckons with promises of further revelry, with upcoming events such as Camp North to Shore in June. And mark your calendars for the AC Beerfest Summer Sessions in July; it's sure to be an extravaganza of epic proportions.
