Asbury Lanes // 3-7-24

On March 7th, the vibrant energy of Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey, reverberated with the sounds of Have Mercy, Punchline, Don’t Panic, and LateWaves. Despite my previous accolades for Asbury Lanes, I'm continually impressed by its magnetic charm – from the inviting ambiance to the attentive staff, it's a venue that consistently delivers unforgettable experiences. With the unfortunate closure of House of Independents, Asbury Lanes has emerged as a beacon for live music, attracting a diverse array of shows and solidifying its status as a must-visit destination.
Kicking off the night was LateWaves, a dynamic three-piece band hailing from the heart of Asbury Park. Their spirited performance not only warmed up the crowd but also set the bar high for the acts to follow. Currently promoting their self-titled album under Open Your Ears Records, Late Waves are gearing up for a March tour alongside Smoking Popes and Rodeo Boys, promising fans an unforgettable live experience.
Following a seamless stage setup, Don’t Panic took center stage, delivering a powerful blend of Rock & Roll and Pop Punk. Having caught a glimpse of their talent at The Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival last year, I've been eagerly anticipating another opportunity to witness their electrifying performance. Hailing from Pennsylvania, Don’t Panic will soon embark on a UK tour with the Thomas Nicholas Band, further expanding their reach beyond borders.
Next up was Punchline, celebrating 20 years of their album 'Action'. Although my exposure to Punchline's music has been limited in the past, their captivating stage presence and infectious melodies prompted me to delve deeper into their discography. Following their Dates with Have Mercy, Punchline is set to join forces with The Spill Canvas for a segment of their tour, promising fans a double dose of musical brilliance.
Finally, the spotlight shifted to the main act, Have Mercy, as they took the stage to a sea of eagerly awaiting fans. Drawing enthusiasts from far and wide – including a fellow concert-goer I met from Arizona – Have Mercy's performance showcased the unwavering devotion of their fanbase. With the recent release of their latest album, 'Numb,' under Rude Records, Have Mercy continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences with their emotive soundscapes. Following their current string of shows, they will embark on a joint tour with The Spill Canvas, promising fans an unforgettable musical journey.
