On June 8, 2024, Microwave, along with Origami Angel, Heart Attack Man, and Carpool Tunnel, brought their tour to a memorable close at the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia. The last time I was at this venue, it was known as The Electric Factory, and that was two decades ago. Although the place has undergone many updates since then, it still retains much of the familiar atmosphere I remembered. The venue's history and charm are still very much intact, providing the perfect backdrop for a night of incredible performances.
Carpool Tunnel kicked off the night with a fantastic set, playing eight songs, including their newest release, "The Risk." Their harmonies were impeccable, and their live performance surpassed their recordings, making them a band I’ll definitely continue to follow. The energy they brought to the stage was contagious, setting the tone for the entire evening. The crowd responded enthusiastically to each song, and it was clear that Carpool Tunnel had gained many new fans by the end of their set. Their blend of melodic rock and catchy hooks made for a perfect opening act, warming up the audience and getting everyone ready for the night ahead.
Heart Attack Man was up next, and from the moment they started, the crowd's energy surged. The enthusiasm was so intense that crowd surfing began almost immediately. Opening with "Like A Kennedy," they delivered an electrifying eight-song set in just 30 minutes. The band’s dynamic stage presence and high-energy performance kept the audience on their feet. Each song was met with cheers and enthusiastic sing-alongs. Heart Attack Man’s ability to connect with the crowd was evident, and the energy in the room was palpable. Their performance was a perfect blend of intensity and fun, making for an unforgettable experience.
Origami Angel took the stage to an already hyped audience. The duo dominated the performance, keeping the crowd roaring with tracks like "24 Hr Drive-Thru" and "Doctor Whomst." A standout moment was when the crew brought out a Dwayne Johnson cardboard cutout, creating a scene that the audience won’t forget anytime soon. They played around 15 songs, and the crowd loved every minute. Origami Angel’s set was filled with memorable moments, from their energetic performance to their interactions with the crowd. The band's unique sound and engaging stage presence made their set one of the highlights of the night. Their ability to blend humor and high-energy music created a performance that was both entertaining and musically impressive.
Finally, Microwave closed the night, capping off their headlining tour. The audience was primed and eager, enjoying every moment as the band played over 20 songs spanning five different albums. A highlight was when members of the other bands joined in, throwing balloons into the crowd and adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Microwave’s performance was a perfect ending to a night of incredible music. Their setlist was a journey through their discography, and the crowd responded enthusiastically to each song. The collaboration with other band members added a special touch to the performance, creating a sense of camaraderie and celebration.
These bands all knew how to create unforgettable moments with their stage presence and antics, making it an incredible show. Each act brought something unique to the stage, and their performances complemented each other perfectly. The mix of high-energy rock, melodic tunes, and engaging stage antics made for a well-rounded and thoroughly enjoyable concert experience. I know I'll be looking out for future performances from all of these bands. This night was a testament to the power of live music and the unique experiences it can create. The energy, the crowd, and the music all combined to make a night that will be remembered by all who attended.
