Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls concluded their extensive tour at The Fillmore Philadelphia on June 22, alongside Amigo the Devil, The Bridge City Sinners, and Micah Schnabel & Vanessa Jean Speckman. It was a remarkable evening filled with exceptional music, drawing an enthusiastic crowd that was either sold out or nearly so. The energy and excitement were palpable, with fans eagerly awaiting the performances of each act.
Micah Schnabel and Vanessa Jean Speckman kicked off the night. Despite being an acoustic duo, their energy was impressive, and their chemistry on stage was undeniable. As I navigated through the audience, I could hear the crowd engaging with the performance, perfectly warmed up for the next act. It was clear that Micah and Vanessa had made a lasting impression on the audience, setting a high bar for the rest of the night.
The Bridge City Sinners followed, a band I was particularly excited to see after hearing their new singles and anticipating their upcoming album, "In the Age of Doubt," set for release on July 12. They opened with "Kreacher" and delivered a dynamic performance featuring songs from "Unholy Hymns" and "Here’s to the Devil," along with their latest single, "Crazy." Their stage presence was electrifying, and the crowd was fully engaged from start to finish. A memorable moment occurred when balloons were released into the crowd, adding to the night's unforgettable atmosphere. The band's energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and I’m eagerly awaiting the new album.
Amigo the Devil took the stage next, delivering their usual fantastic performance. They began with two slower songs, "Small Stone" and their latest, "My Body is a Dive Bar," showcasing their ability to convey deep emotions through their music. The audience was captivated by the haunting melodies and poignant lyrics. The band then picked up the pace with "Murder at the Bingo Hall," igniting the crowd's excitement. They played a diverse set, including "Once Upon a Time at Texaco Pt. 1" and "Hungover in Jonestown," during which Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls made a surprise appearance dressed as wacky inflatable tube men. This unexpected and humorous moment delighted the audience, adding an extra layer of fun to the performance. Amigo the Devil closed their set with "Hell and You," leaving the stage ready for the headliner.
Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls wrapped up the night and the Undefeated tour with show number 2,908 for Turner. The band delivered a powerful 25-song set over 1 hour and 45 minutes, featuring eight tracks from their latest album, "Undefeated," released in May. The crowd was fully engaged, singing along and crowd surfing. The connection between the band and the audience was electric, with fans hanging on every note and lyric. Midway through the set, Frank performed a few acoustic songs, giving the audience a more intimate experience before finishing the night with the full band. His solo performance highlighted his raw talent and ability to connect with the audience on a personal level.
Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls, along with The Bridge City Sinners, will hit the road again in August, starting at the Starland Ballroom in NJ. This tour promises to bring more unforgettable nights of music and memories, continuing the legacy of outstanding live performances that Frank Turner and his band are known for. Fans can look forward to another round of high-energy shows, heartfelt lyrics, and incredible musicianship.
